The Book World Day is held in the UK and Ireland on the first Thursday of March (March 3rd this year). If you’re wondering how World Book Day UK differs from the one on April 23rd, you’re an observant cookie! The day was changed for the UK in 1998 because of conflicts with St. George’s Day as well as Easter school holidays.
To celebrate the day, we want to share with you this Super quiz in which you’ll have to guess the titles of 20 different books with the only help of a few pictograms. Once you have your list, send it to andreaelvira@ieslapuebladealfinden.com.
The person who gets more correct answers will win a prize and in case of draw, we’ll take into account the date and hour the email was sent to Andrea. You’ve until the 8th March at 18 pm to send the answers!
Come on, hurry up! It’s worth it!! 🙂
Women have sacrificed a lot for science just as men have done. Often women have been seen in the past as not belonging in Science as they were thought to have a more home-maker role in society.
Unfortunately for a lot of women, they were just never quite seen as being equal or up to the challenge of being as good at science as men. Not many people think of being a Scientist as a dangerous job, but many people should be thought of as heroes for dying whilst trying to investigate the world we live in and beyond.
To celebrate this day, the students in 2 ESO have created a “Hall of Fame of female scientists” which can be seen in the top floor corridor.
February 14th is coming!
Just another day on the calendar for some but for the romantic and lovers of Love, it’s a day that can create great happiness or great worry, depending on the current status of your love-life.
The following song from the film Moulin Rouge is a mash-up containing some of the most famous love songs in the recent history of music. It contains parts of exactly 13 songs. How many can you identify?
It’s celebrated in USA every 2nd February. According to tradition, if a groundhog comes out of its hole on this day and sees its shadow, it gets scared and runs back into its burrow, predicting six more weeks of winter weather; no shadow means an early spring. |

Merry Christmas!
Last Thursday 25th November we celebrated Thanksgiving in our high school and we decorated our Thanksgiving Tree with our students’ messages. Our winner is Lucía Monreal (4th ESO) with this original sentence:
I’m thankful for having a coffee machine to survive in my exams!
Here you can see a picture of the winner, with a friend, her teacher and her prize.
Thanks you all very much!!!
In Physics and Chemistry, we are learning about matter. First of all, we have learnt that matter can be classified according to its composition into five different categories: element, compound, suspension, colloid or solution. Each class has created its own poster to show some real examples of these five categories. Have a look!
Is the Earth a spherical planet? Our students now know that not really. Being accurate, our planet has a geoid shape because it is flat in the poles. But, can we represent it in a different way? Sure, here you have some examples!!
We have worked with a diverse amount of geometrical figures, such as squares, pentagons, hexagons, icosahedrons… They show us that the distances and sizes of the continents and oceans can be modified depending on the geometrical figure we choose, like it happened with the different cartographic projections (Mercator, Peters, UTM…) None is better than the rest, just different!!
We have enjoyed a lot doing our planets!! Hope you like them.
